I found this wonderful apothecary/perfume maker on E-Bay a few months back and have since purchased from her website many times. I love going into Sephora and trying new scents, soaps and skin products but it gets pricey and I can't do it often. SkinMax uses only organic ingredients and manages to capture scents in their actuality so that you can hardly tell the difference. I love the Fresh line of products and I can't tell the difference between Fresh Sugar Lemon and the SkinMax version at a fraction of the price. The fragrance list for men and women is extensive and you can order trial sizes of anything as well as "sniffies" to sample scents for free.

Time Warp

My TV and computer changed time last weekend,so I've been in sort of a time fugue anyway but the people at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston have some pointers on time change survival (not as easy as it sounds) :

- Stay away from caffeine and other stimulants, especially during the days before and after the time shift, and avoid napping for a few days because it can disrupt your sleeping at night.

- Sleep through that extra hour if you can instead of trying to get things done.

- Don't drive if you feel sleepy because of the time shift. Consider taking public transportation for a few days to give your body time to adjust.

- Keep in mind that time in front of screens — the computer or television varieties — before bedtime can disrupt sleep.

**Fast food and vending machine food is NOT GOOD for you**

Why they've even slipped a little provision, covertly buried into the wondrous House health care bill :

The provision -- Section 2572 -- requires retail food establishments "part of a chain with 20 or more locations" to list calorie counts "on the menu board including a drive-through board," as is currently required in New York City and other localities.
A "vending machine operator shall provide a sign in close proximity to each article of food or the selection button" that includes similar data.

What's next- warning signs in the snack food aisle ? Preachers sermonizing in the beer aisle of Wegman's?

Trick or Treat McDonald's Coups

UPDATE 10/30/2009:
I went to a Micky D's this morning to purchase some of these coupons and found the drive-thru clerk utterly clueless as to what I was talking about. I then made a couple of phone calls and discovered that it is only corporate McDonald's restaurants that are selling Trick or Treat coupons and apparently the vast majority of the establishments in WNY are privately owned franchises which ARE NOT selling them. The coupons are not honored by those private franchises either so take heed Halloween revelers!

I like the idea for this year. $1.00/book of 12 coupons and I can drive-thru on my way to work tomorrow.

Each book contains:

(4) Free Small Cone Coupons
(4) Apple Dippers coupons
(4) Free Apple Juice or Milk Jug coupons

looks like they've foregone the soda-pop and french fries coupons, but aw heck it is Halloween ...

Backyard Update

OK I'm trying. I put that corn thingy on the tree hoping it will discourage squirrel/chippy vandalism of the suet feeder. The good news is, after 3 weeks of it being there, they have finally discovered it and started gnawing . The bad news is, the suet he's munching is Peanut Delite and that's for the woodpeckers, not him. So after he annihilates it, it's Hot Pepper time. That'll teach him.

Meanwhile the Chickadees finally figured out what to do with the nugget feeder.
It's weird how they won't go near a new feeder for weeks but once they do, they're glued.

I recently started taking an Iron supplement since my Mega-B vitamin formula has none. It's called Iron-C from Pure Encapsulations. I've never slept better. No Squint

A couple of Add-ons for Firefox browser I couldn't live without:

No Squint is a must-have, especially for those horrid websites with the black backgrounds and white or fluorescent lettering. The setting allows you to change the background of any website to white and the lettering to black for easy reading.

Fairly new is the WOT add-on, but I'm pleasantly surprised at it's efficiency in weeding out unsafe websites while surfing.

Conservatives Maintain Edge as Top Ideological Group

Not surprising news. The Independents have backpedaled bigtime from a year ago. I'm in this mix as are plenty of others I know.

"Changes among political independents appear to be the main reason the percentage of conservatives has increased nationally over the past year: the 35% of independents describing their views as conservative in 2009 is up from 29% in 2008."

Gay Anglican Priests Object to Women Clergy

It gets better and better. George Pitcher, an Anglican priest and columist for Telegraph.co.uk., writes today about the heretofore unrecognized "elephant in the vestry" of gay priests opposed to women in the clergy, especially in the role of bishops.

Who knew?

Gay priests who have remained celibate won't see much change in that department if they moved to Rome, but the priests who have partners and civil unions would have to leave all of that behind should such a move take place. "It may not have been his intention, but not a few Anglican priests will have had their bluff called by his generous offer. If they really object to women bishops so much, they are going to have to leave their partners."

Interesting timing of President Obama to declare a national emergency of the Swine Flu. He has been ticking them off all along with his Health Care Reform, so is this an attempt to get back into some deeply pocketed good graces?

It's a learning process is it not?

Bird seed normally put in feeders is a huge draw not only to our feathery friends, but to those bandits of the outdoors too.

Suet is a popular food with all of the above, but there is an easy way to detract coons and squirrels by using the hot pepper variety in any type of suet feeder.

Woodpeckers, Chickadees, Cardinals and Blue Jays can't get enough of this stuff and I've yet to chase a squirrel off of a hot pepper suet feeder.

Home Depot * has the best supply of hot pepper suet in these parts. It's hard to find in pet and hardware stores but ordering online is another option.

Anglicans, Episcopalians and Catholics... Oh My!

Just as I was about to join a local Episcopal Church I was confronted by the battleground within.

Eerily reminded of my Catholic origins, I decided to take a wait-and-see position on the outcome.

This week, the Pope saved me the trouble by offering an olive branch to the more "conservative" members of the church who have a hard time swallowing the idea of women as clergy as well as openly gay people.

Initially I was excited at this news for the Episcopal church in the U.S., here's a simple solution to everyone's problems: the disgruntled head off to Rome and leave everyone else to get on with an inclusive church where members are valued equally.

The fallout since the Papal announcement has been anything but simple. Ranging from outraged Catholics who are furious at the idea of their church becoming a harbor for bigoted views to current Anglicans saying "nothing doing", this pot is just starting to boil.
